Hobby Lobby has been embroiled in legal conflicts over its attempts to avoid paying for its employees birth control under Obamacare. They lost their appeal – and their attempt to get a temporary restraining order from the Supreme Court failed as well. But today, Hobby Lobby announced that they found a loophole,
Hobby Lobby discovered a way to shift the plan year for its employee health insurance, thus postponing the effective date of the mandate for several months. Hobby Lobby does not provide coverage for abortion-inducing drugs in its healthcare plan. Hobby Lobby will continue to vigorously defend its religious liberty and oppose the mandate and any penalties.
What’s amazing is arguments like Hobby Lobby’s have held up in ten cases nationwide, and Hobby Lobby is one of only three that have been forced to pay. Which is so utterly moronic it makes my head spin. First of all: it’s birth control, not abortions. Nobody hates birth control anymore. In fact, free access to birth control is proven to reduce the amount of abortions. Failing to provide your employees with access to something as basic as modern birth control is a travesty and – I’ll just say it – a sin.
